The Living Light Center is located in a quiet and peaceful neighborhood in St. Louis, Missouri.
Metal Color Light Therapy (MCLT) harnesses the transformative power of sunlight through specially designed glass panels infused with metal oxides. Natural light filters through glass panels infused with minute quantities of metal, imbuing the light with vibrant colors. This interaction between metal colors and light creates a dynamic, ‘living’ light that resonates with our body, soul, and spirit. People who undergo this therapy often experience enhancements in warmth, sleep quality, pain management, and overall well-being. Each session with Metal Color Light Therapy offers a healing journey that addresses the emotional and physical strains of modern life, fostering a deeper sense of peace and confidence. This therapy serves as a valuable adjunct to other therapeutic and palliative care approaches.
Metal Color Light Therapy (MCLT) began in 2001 in Schwörstadt, Germany, as part of a research project, at the Lichtblick e.V Foundation. It was developed as a therapy form by the late Marianne Altmaier, an experienced art therapist who became inspired by the profound stained glass windows of the Goetheanum building in Dornach, Switzerland, as well as the grand medieval cathedral at Chartres, France. The old tradition of creating the colored glass panels is continued in our time by Lucien Turci of Colmar, France whose workshop is now at the Schwörstadt facility. Artfully measured amounts of metals and their salts are dissolved in hot liquid glass which is then poured into slabs and allowed to solidify in a carefully guided process that extends over days. As it cools, the colors inherent in the metals are revealed out of their enchanted state and become visible. The glass converts natural sunlight into therapeutic colors. The next step is then the etching of the design into the glass panels. Where substance is ground away, the glass becomes thinner and the color lighter. A design emerges which brings movement to the inner life of the person viewing the panel.
Metal Color Light Therapy is used in facilities across Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Its therapeutic efficacy has been substantiated through studies and documented in Marianne Altmaier’s book “Metallfarblichttherapie”. Her intent out of her deep commitment to anthroposophic art therapy was to enhance the healing potential of colored light.
Metal Color Light Therapy is now being introduced in private practice to individuals in the United States at Living Light Center in St. Louis Missouri through the use of glass panels acquired from Germany. Additional glass panels are also being introduced in Carbondale, CO by Helena Hurrell as well as on the East Coast in Standish, Maine where Lisa Edge is in private practice as a MCLT therapist.
